I know I have seen this postew before but will all of our first crossing rt's peel or will alot stay green?

Ok thanks should we just get rid of the ones that don't fade or are they like the electric blue gene jack dempsey.

I don't know about EBJD but I recommend you don't get rid of them. Select those one's that are pearly and keep them. I had a female red texas that didn't start fading until she was 7". Who knows, you might get some late faders.

Well that is what had us worried because some of our smaller ones have faded but the bigger ones are dark green with real nice pearling. If we breed a green to our one that looks like it will be orangey red what will the resulting fry turn out as peelers and will we get closer to red. We now have a rd male we want to breed to one of if we have one faded females to get more red in the line. Is it possible to get to where all fry will be faders pr peel or will there always be a certain percntage come out green.

Thanks again Neil we finally got a rd male he is quite a size when we figure out what our rt's are we will breed one of them to him. We also have another batch of juvie rt growing out now our older batch are starting to peel but it looks like only 4 or so will. I know this project takes some time and patience we have one of our older juves in the middle of its peel and showing some promise. Will keep on until we get what we are looking for the sterility problem comes from the crossing not just the bp though I think.

I have a question. I am looking to breed red Texas. I have been told that if I breed a male green Texas and a female blood parrot, it would result in red texas? Does anyone kno if there is any truth to that?

That is a good start but alot more to than that there are a few other fish you can cross with your texas check out the link RD has here.

I was doing a water change on our tank that is peeling today and noticed that one of the ones that has peeled is showing red on its fins. Is this promising the rt is kind of orangy red colored now so maybe we will get one decent one to go on.
