I was looking for a red Texas to grow out, @2" (total length) should they be showing red tone under skin already? Or is it too small at that age. A shop I visited had imported red Texas with nice pearls(so if he doesn't fade still looks good) but can't see red undertone. Granted he has them in a tank with ultra white gravel and bright light, washing colors out a lot. I'm a gambler but tank space is getting slim.😃

Unless they are showing color (even a little) you can't be sure. Look for color starting at the gills or strong hues in fins. If they all look exactly the same I would grab the most dominant in the sale tank.

Hmm. Thanks for the tip. The most dominant rd lacks pearl over kok. I'll go for the 2nd one then. Can't see any color with the white sand. They all look washed out.

Also note the eyes all have s faint yellowish/orange tint. I'm not sure if the regular texas carries that trait?

Thanks everyone. Fingers crossed. Already eating nls, so it's off to a good start. Hopefully I'll have something decent to share in a few months. Perhaps it will end up short bodied.
