Hello,

Was just wondering if anyone knows what this kind of flowerhorn is crossed with... I have had flowerhorns before, and I have never seen any that look and act like this guy.

He was a gift from my boyfriend who manages an aquatic business. He was picked off the distributor list. Only 2 were available. Have not seen them on the list since.

Have had him for almost a year. He has a flowerhorn appetite and doubled in size, but is painfully shy. Especially around weird objects, such as the camera.

Any feedback would be great. Thanks:)

awsome fish, awsome drift wood!

Thank you for the feedback....I do know he is part Texas Cichlid, but I guess I was really wondering about how he got his rounded shape. It is hard to tell from the pics posted, but he has a very rounded belly like my blood parrot. The Short Body Texas fish I have seen don't have the roundedness to them like him, and he really doesn't resemble a parrot in any other way at all...These pics are not the best, but they are actually frames from a video I took while offering food. Only way I could get a pic since his is deathly afraid of the camera :-/

I appreciate your comment since it looks like you post a lot; however, it is not a supplier issue.

The supplier has been a very trusted supplier for many years. Their fish are high quality and healthy. Never have had any issues or reason to believe they would be trying to pawn off something false.

He originated from Thailand and came through a California supplier, that has provided beautiful flowerhorns many times before...so I don't buy that theory.
Not the best pics to view, but he is usually brighter in color, deep red eyes, and he has flowering down his side, which texas cichlids to do not have. Also has fins that flow long and to a point like a flowerhorn. Therefore, he must be part flowerhorn. Just was curious to ask around regarding the roundedness of his body for ideas of what else he might be made of.
Either way, he is a great fish. Love him!
