how big do they get and what are the chances of me getting one?

Red Texas come in several different color and marking varieties, including the Super Red Texas which is guaranteed to be the characteristic red color (as opposed to a Red Texas who, if bought as a juvie, can't be 100% sure that it will eventually fade to red). Males can easily reach 12". I think the largest female I've heard of was about 10" but the males definitely have a heftier look to them.

I would suggest searching on aquabid.com because there are usually at least a dozen for sale. I've never seen any in local shops but was lucky enough to buy mine from a breeder who was a 2-hour drive away. I would definitely recommend his SRTs; mine is my favorite fish by far, and the price was very fair considering how expensive these guys can get. His website is www.exotictrading.net and he ships as well. Good luck! They are a fantastic fish.

I have had a few of these guys and some fade some do not. I have a breeding pair(proven fertile) that give me fry all the time. they are currently 8-10" now and some of their offspring have actually shown some nice red. (not SRT red but red none the less and they started showing their red at about 4" so its not even from fading. The Pair is currently for sale and I also have fry available also from 1-3" . let me know if ya want some pics. for some reason MFK wont let me upload pics from my PC. ( even if i make the pics smaller)
