I'm considering purchasing 1 or maybe more Red Texas. Before I buy any can you guys tell me a few things about them. Are they actually hybrids and what is the combo? What are the grades of them? Max. size? Aggression? Will they breed with each other and produce babies the same as the parents.

Or a site with R.T. info?
And who has em for sale? I'm looking for the higher grade with the awesome colors.

Thanks
Jamie

red texas are very mean. ive got 2 one big and one small. my big oned killed a equal size rd overnight and my small one ripped a gash out of the side of my low grade fh. sold the low grade fh and small red tex to lfs and kept the big one. he is in a 100 gallon with a rosequeen that he likes. he will jump out of the water to try to bite you. he is not red. he just has the red gene and you can see some red speckles here and there.

What would be ok with a RT or SRT. I guess I will use my 125 for now. I found some online and the guy is asking $125 for a 3-4" RT but the color is absolutely amazing. I don't see why it isn't considered a SRT. Sorry, I'm a noob to any CA or hybrids. I have always kept SA cichlids.

may just not be listed as SRT the SRT generally have better color but i like them either way

Well back to my first post...... You guys suggest 1 or 2 in a 125 gal. How are the RT and SRT achieved?

I would say 1 just due to aggression and size whats the tanks foot print. and sorry not sure how achieved.

The real thing SRT is very expensive specially if you can get a fully faded one thats red with nice pearl pattern on it.

foot print is 6'x1.5' or 6'x2' I think it is the 6'x1.5'.

i do believe its a cross between a texas and a blood parrot but can also be crossed with a true red devil. im trying to get my tex and rosequeen to breed. the rosequeen has bp and rd in it so im guessing out of the 3000 babies you would prolly get 100 srt. if not you would have to breed those babies and the more you breed the babies the more srt you will have. problem is most male red tex are sterile thus you would prolly want to keep breeding the female babies with true texas or keep trying to breed the origianal babies and hope you have some fertile males. the more you do this the less fertile each generation will be.

you can see how aggressive he is but you can also see the female rq with him. she keeps laying eggs for him but he is sterile so i put my carpintis (texas) with my female veja syn and they are paired up so the next time the rq layes eggs for my red tex im going to pull the eggs as soon as she lays them and grab my carpintis out of the tank he paired up with the veja and squeeze his sperm on the eggs and put eggs back in tank with rq and red tex to guard. im hoping this will happen withing the next 2 or 3 days so i will keep you informed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoipgFv4Pjg
