I have a pair of red tigers that bred about 6 weeks ago in a 100 gallon tank. The fry are about 1/4 inch now and there are new eggs in a pot. Usually I would take the babies out and put them in a new tank but I just happen to not have any room at the moment except a 10 gal hospital tank. Anyone ever leave fry with a pair after they start a new breed? I'd put them in the 10 if I had to but they won't get big enough in there to sell to the lfs. Will the male start eating them? Anyone?

The babies are in the pot with her as if they are avoiding dad-or they may still just be attached to her- I don't know. They would hang around with either parent before, but now just they just want to be near the mother.

If it was me I would remove a couple to the ten gallon to grow out and leave the rest to see what happens. There really is no way to no for sure except trying it

Good luck and congrats

Yeah that is what i was thinking of doing. I'm a wee bit suprised noone here has done this before. I was hoping for some first hand experiences. Thanks for the reply though.

i had the same thing with the dovii, it was awesome, the already free swimming fry end up eating their smaller brothers n sisters, the parents tried to chase them away, but i put a divider in there, so they would get away, only to re-enter n have some more snacks.

Another thing to watch for is sometimes the fry will eat the new eggs. I had a batch of dovii fry eat a batch of eggs.

i just got one the other day..and it is pretty sweet hes only like 3 inches so im not sure of the sex but i hope to get a pair...in the long run.....can we see pic...

update. My fry ate the eggs. What shocked me is mom was right there in the pot with them and let it happen. That is crazy. I totally didn't expect it as I always took the fry out.

CRAZY
:WHOA:

My old Amphilopus Labiatum pair did exactly the same thing. The just watched when the older fry ate the new ones. Kind of strange...
