Hello Severum lovers: I picked up this little guy today. About an inch or inch and a half. Sold to me as a red tiger severum, but my lfs is a little sketchy sometimes. Can anyone confirm that? Either way, he's a keeper....but still curious.

Assuming by red tiger you are referring to the rotkeil/red shoulder severum, it takes some time for the red to show up. Hard to confirm until then, but it does look like juvie red shoulders I’ve seen.

Red Tiger Severum generally refers to H. severus, not Rotkiels.

Ah yes, my mistake.
I knew something felt wrong when I never heard of rotkeils being called that before lol.

This is not Heros severus, which they call Red Tiger or Curare. It looks to be a rotkeil or rotkeil hybrid, but it’s hard to tell at that size. You won’t know more until it starts to color up at 3.5 - 4”.

Tiger Severums have a Y shaped stripe at the seventh bar. At minimum the stripe will not be as long the other ones

I had male efasciatus and female rotkeil spawn, after reading the pinned post I decided to cull the fry. As seeing how hard it is to identify between the two, it makes the heros even more confusing. I am now keeping the female in another aquarium
