I have a male belly crawler pike that’s about 7” and really thick. He’s very territorial. Fortunately his territories are very small and he’s only mean when guarding it but he does guard it viciously. I’ve been thinking about getting a small type of wolf fish and putting it in a 40b, but do you guys think those two would coexist in a 55? I know it’s just speculation but any input is appreciated.

I’d say no. My old red didn’t like anything with a elongated body shape. Same with pikes but I doubt the bellycrawler will do much.

Ok thanks, I’ll just keep the wolf solo if I get one, I’ve had that BCP for few years and I’d hate to lose it.

No chance, that pike's a goner in anything less than a 75. The wolf alone will do great in anything larger than 29 gallons though. (that's assuming of course you're talking about a red wolf fish.)

My Red Wolf (E. erythrinus ) was pretty mellow in a 125 with plenty of hiding spots. I kept him with smaller geophagus, silver dollars, black skirt tetras and a buch of plecos/ armored cats with no issues. I would have kept him longer, but I moved and had to break up the "band".

Big tanks is possible, but both are fish they don’t like others that look like them. I wouldn’t recommend the mix in less than 100 gallons, and even that is small.

Thanks guys, I’ve actually had the red wolf for a couple months and he’s about 4.5” now and in a 40b with 7” Rafael. I ended up selling the BCP since with the changes to my tanks, I didn’t have a good place for him
