red wolf with short tail and top fin??? HELP!!!

Hi a recently got a great 6 inch red high wolf . The prob is the wolf has a "super short " tail and top hi fin which is supposed to be beautiful by now. So far the fins are not red yet. STRAnge. The dude that sold the wolf to me told me that he kept it with very large fish, so it wouldn't dare get a beatiful red coulour yet. Since I keep my new wolf with smaller senegalus bichirs, I guess the colours will appear. RIGhT???. My main concern is if the fins will grow longer.

Males are the colorful ones, and females have smaller fins and only a small amount of coloring.
