I want to get 5 red zebra 1-2M 3-4F for my 75g. Currently i have:
5 Yellow Labs (1M-4F)~2in
4 Socolofi (1M-3F)~2in
2 Yoyo Loaches~2in
1 Angelicus Botia~2in
2 Bushy Nose Plecs~1in
1 Upside down cat~1.5in
I also have 1 Cobalt Blue and was thinking about getting 3 more of those as well, but i have heard that Red Zebra males can get blue. Is this true? If so do you think i shold not get anymore Cobalts and just get the Reds.

P.S. not all those bottom feeders will remain in that tank, i will be setting up a fry tank/growout tank that i will move some of them to.

A red zebra will be fine with the cichlids you have.

You're probably increasing the potential for hybridization if you keep them with the cobalt blue zebras, though (not a problem if you don't intend on keeping/disseminating hybrid fry). With that said, I've yet to see my cobalt zebra interact with my red zebras or vice versa. I think by having multiple individuals of both species may reduce the odds of them interbreeding....but with mbuna, anything is possible.

By the way, red zebra males don't "get blue". Males of the blue morph variety are born blue (or gray); the majority of the red zebra in the wild are of this particular kind.

If you've got orange red zebra males, they're the red or orange variety of red zebra and will retain their coloration (or get lighter in color, as in pinkish).

okay i had just read a few places that said males can get that color. I may get rid of my cobalt blue since it is hard to find them around my area anymore. My petsmart stopped carrying them and i bought the last one for $2.50 reduced to clear. Are there any other good blue colors that you guys would recommend. I know there are others but I want your guys opiniona. That way i have yellow, white, orange/red, just need 1 more good color or a striped color.

It is true they don't get blue they are born that way. I have 4 or 5 blue males that were spawned from orange parents, they quickly became our favorite zebras, in fact we planned on supplying a local fish store with zebras but I don't want to give them only females, so they will have to wait until we get some more fry.

If you are looking for blue, some red zebra males are blue. I have several blue male offspring from red zebras that I have that were both orange. Try and breed them for your blue fish.
