Hey guys, as you probablg know I have my big 210 gallon with my cliwn knife, gar, bala sharks, tinfoil barb ID shark etc. But, Yesterday I got 4 new fish. 3 18 inch bichirs and an 18 inch eel. Well... My current design with the huge cavernous rocks is not doing it... It was great for when I tried geowing out smaller fish (they hid in the rocks) but the caverns are just to small and one of the bichirs knocked down a few rocks when we first put him in (everyone is fine...) it takes up half the tank and, I also just do not like the look of it anymore... So to put it simply, I am REDESIGNING the tank to fit the fish i am currently keeping... Now, I only am going to use what I already have to redesign... I am not going to go out and buy more supplies... Here is what I have:
Tons of rocks
A piece of driftwood
Fake silk plants

And I know bichir enthusiasts recommend black red sand mix and I will eventually get that... Just now now.

So, i want this tank to look Amazing!
Here are the specifications:
---Not a bare tank
---must have hiding spots in rocks for my 14 inch sun catfish, python eel, and leporinus...
---Has to orovide optimal swimming space...

I was thinking one NON-TALL rock pile in the back left corner and one in the back right corner then the driftwood in the middle...

I for certain do not want one singular huge rock pile like I have now...

Also, suggestions on HOW to stack rock to create nice caves would be nice.

So, could you please post some pictures of tanks that are set up like i described above. I will be basing my design off of them... (Not a complete copy, just as a guideline on how to decorate it...

Thank you guys SO much!

I would just stick with the driftwood and silk plants and some randomly spaced rocks. You don't wanna stack rocks in a tank with bichirs, especially at those sizes cuz they are surprisingly strong and will knock them down all the time. My 16" endli pushed up a 20lb piece of driftwood just do that it could get underneath it in less than a second. If you really want the colors to pop, you should replace the sand with garnet sand sooner instead of later. It just puts less stress on the fish if you change everything at once instead if different times.

Wow! It knocked over 20 pounds? Beast! Anyways, how would you recommend I create caves for my sun catfish eel and leporinus?

BTW, my one bichir knocked down a large section of rock as soon as we got them... Nobody was harmed though...

It actually lifted the driftwood up cuz it wanted to get underneath it so it would easily be able to knock over 20lbs. You can still set up rocks, just don't stack them high but the bichirs will still knock them over eventually. What's the driftwood look like? Can your cat hide somewhere in that or set it up so it can go under?

Nah... It is just a long piece of drift wood...

You could probably stack some rocks around and under the driftwood to create a crevice under the wood and maybe some smaller hides in the rocks. Just don't stack the rocks high and put the heavier rocks on the bottom.
