Hi guys, i have a few homemade crawdad and minnow traps in my back yard, and i occasionally get a bass or chain pickerel in there. but today i got a redfin pickerel, i have not seen many of these before and was wondering if anyone keeps them. i have him in my keeper pot right now, and will release him tomorow, unless anyone knows about keeping them, it is about 7 inches. thanks

I have the western subspecies, the grass pickerel. They're not very active fish, so they don't need a huge tank. Mine is in a 75 gallon with a warmouth and a large goldfish, but I think he would be fine in a smaller tank. They get over 12", so don't get a narrow tank.

I have not yet tried to train mine to pellets. He eats feeder rosies and ghost shrimp. They don't do well with more active or aggressive fish; in fact, it's probably best to keep them alone. They love plants and other cover.
