I seen a couple at a pet store. They where about 3 inches long and all silver. Do their colours come with age?

Thanks

Mine was about 4" when I picked him up a couple months ago. His fins were already pretty colorful, these photos were taken right after I brought him home. I think his tail has colored up even more since he has settled in, but I don't have any recent pictures. The LFS owner did say that these ones he had gotten were exceptionally well-colored.

I like the colouring on yours. The ones I seen have no black specks anywhere and the "flag tail" has no colouration at all. They only had the red lower fin.

Unfortunatly the only place that sells them houses the fish in very small quarters, so that migth be a reason why their not showing colour ither.

Both of mine had the striped tail when I got them, but the color overall has gotten much better with age. Even the face starts to become red as they mature. Very nice looking fish once they color up

Yes you may. In their natural habitat, the fish forms small to large shoals. Whether kept in small or large groups, Jaraqui show little conspecific aggression. During feeding time, multiple specimens may chase each other when grazing upon a small area. Fighting can also be occasionally observed when two Jaraqui of equal size enter within close proximity. Both will display and take turns jousting at each other. This behavior usually concludes with no injuries and a clear victor.

I had 2 at 8" and one pinned the other in a corner for 2 weeks. finally had to get rid of one. Then the other sucked the slime coat off my black arowana in 2 days, almost killed it. Ha dto get rid of it also here he was at 10" when I had to get rid of him

I got mine at 3'' and he had the flagtail pattern from the get-go. I would imagine the fish you saw were stressed, all three species in the genus tend to have their patterns from early on.

I am tempted to get one of these, but unfortunately, I've never seen one locally.....
As discussed on another thread, may or may not be compatible with my Distichodus Sexfasciatus, so that's another factor!
