This is the third time my geos are breeding and it seems like the pair always break up. It's just 1 guarding the eggs. Is that normal?

My experience with those fish was that the female did most of the work. As the pair got better at breeding both the male and female would hold fry in their mouths and guard the eggs. Fish definitely have their own personalities so if your male doesn't feel like doing his job he may never do it. Good luck!

Thanks i checked the tank today and the eggs are gone. I do notice 2 of my geos have something in their mouth and will not eat anything. Are they mouth brooders?

Fabulous fish! I have 7 Rio Tapajo Red Noses as well and my tank is also stocked with loaches. My Red Noses also did breed and both the parents held the babies in their mouth for protection when they thought there was another fish too close, or my hand coming in. My LFS told me that these fish can hold the babies in their mouths, and eat at the same time. They can chew their food without hurting the babies AND what was so amazing to me, is that the babies can also EAT some of the food the parent has been chewing up. Then the parent can swallow their food and at the same time NOT swallow the babies.
So they did this for 5 or 6 days with the fry, if I remember correctly and then I noticed the fry were starting to swim away from the parents. And this is what they do in the wild because after about a week, the parents could possibly eat the babies because they want to breed again. This is from my LFS. They are just such beautiful tropical fish. I have 2 girls and 5 boys who are now full grown and I'm waiting to see who pairs up so I can give a few of these to my LFS. They boys are from 5 to 7 inches long and the girls are probably 4ish inches.
Thanks for the video; that was fun!

kool, idk about geos but i've had pairs that would do that while the eggs were still incubating . the female will guard the eggs and the male will go about his business then once they hatch he will protect the fry with the mother but maybe more batches will improve it

Thanks they've been holding for 3 days. Can't wait to see them.
