See pics. Any help if determining that the redness is normal

I have a sand bottom & hoping it’s not irritating them. I have 2 motoros. The male (pictured) tends to lean on the glass & moves along bottom occasionally & while eating. The female travels along bottom constantly. They are both very good eaters. Mainly night crawlers.

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks

It can be diffrent things doing this with your rays. It can be stress and it can be because of your water. How big are they? How long have they been in the tank? Is there any tankmates that can stress them?

thanks for the input, I'll review water quality more closely & get them off crawlers. The tank mates are a clownknife, Frontosa, a couple of clown loaches, small electric blue Acara & a Jewel. None bother the rays, they seem to have free rein of the tank and all eat very well.

Any advice on different food choices is appreciated and I'll review posts on the subject

Try to get them on pellets. And feed pellets, mussels and tilapia or other white fish. And keep then on a staple diet of pellets and feed about every third day fish, mussels or shrimp

Food choices, frozen tilapia, frozen shrimp, hikari sinking carnivore pellets, hikari massivore pellets, and crawlers as a treat. Also some other things that might work, prawn, muscles, cut fish, polock, and clams. The more diversity the better. Chance are the other fish in the tank will eat the same foods.

Thats a nice diet. I try to mix up my pellets to. I use both hikari sinking gold, massivore and the i use northfin krill gold, jumbo fish and carnivore in a big mix.

I introduced shrimp and they took to it with no problem. Was feeding them crawlers. Redness is still there, water parameters are normal so I’m assuming it’s a youth thing. Both rays doing very well & eating good. See pics of the tank mates. Knife is about 12-13in. Trying to get smaller ray a little fatter. Thanks for the input.
