I'm going to be building an indoor pond over the next few weeks and moving my frontosa to it from my display tank in my family room. The fronts just hate the traffic and i figure I'll give them more space and more privacy. Anyways that leaves a 320 to fill. Dimensions are 8' x 32" x 24". I'm thinking the following stock:

1 male a. Chancho
1 male jaguar cichlid
1 male green Texas Escondido
1 male trimac
1 male festae
1 male red devil
1 male green terror

Any bottom dwellers or other fish that could be added? Trying to stay all male at least cichlid wise to prevent a genocide with a breeding pair.

that should look great! There might be abit of fighting between the rd and the festae because theyre both personal fish and will probably both want to be boss. a large pleco would do well or some sort of catfish maybe ask what cat or pleco would work in the bottom dwellers section (=

Thanks for the feedback, I'm thinking a cat maybe, but I'm afraid of a pleco...forgot to mention the tank is acrylic

cat should be fine with them i didnt realise there was a trimac in there aswell. all the amphilophus species should work out look up on youtube amphilophus tank pr go one shawn armentrouts channel he has an all amph tank which looks great(= im not an expert so wait for the experts to come on and gove you more info. hope this helps (=

Wasn't sure about the trimac and chancho due to similar shapes. Also the tank has a 40gal/day drip system.

While you have a bunch of room, and they're all fun fish, I feel like you'll have some issues. GT will grow much slower than the rest and basically get beat to death. That's the most noticeable issue I see, but every fish is an individual and I think you'll probably have to rehome atleast another 2-3 fish on your list. As far as bottom dwellers I can offer much advice as it's not something I know a ton about.

Yeah I was back and forth on the gt. I have had large amphilophus before that completely ignored smaller tankmates, so I was hoping he wouldn't be seen as a threat by anyone and kind of ignored. I've read mixed reviews about the chancho being a slow grower as well.

On a long term, if you put a male festae, they can get without a surprise to 16inches and even maybe to 18 inches, i think maybe that the GT would get destroyed by those bigger fishes. Just my opinion, ive never tries keeping them together

just a heads up adding a texas at a small size to that combo will only give it a death sentence. They are weak fish until they are about 5 or 6 inches in size and then they will stand up on their own. Also the green terror will not last also unless introduced at a larger size. Small texas have low immune systems and when they get stressed can fall ill easily or stop eating and their growth rate will dramatically reduce. Although the mix may work when they are larger sizes I would suggest to either find a larger texas or grow it out for a few months in a smaller tank on its own so it will gain confidence and growth without the hassle of other fish chasing it .

Adding a 3-4 inch green texas and skipping the green terror, as the one I've had in the past was a wimp aND as others had mentioned will grow slow. I'll be getting a few devils, festae, chanchos, and trimacs. I have a shipment coming in from COA tomorrow as they were the only supplier of chanchos. I already have the jag, who will occupy a smaller tank until I'm sure the new fish wont be edible. I may try an oscar as I've had success keeping them with jags and rds in the past.
