Hi All,
Well, I am thinking of getting out of the discus, lightly planted tank thing and moving over to new worlds and some oddballs. The tank is a 210 gallon in wall with lots of driftwood and some java fern, anubias, and crypts. Filter is a wet-dry. I am not caring if the plants get devoured. I liked the tank to look interesting to the average observer -- not just a collection of big fish. Will post a pic of the aquascape soon. The tanks is in the entrance way of a modern loft. Here is a list of possibilities. We would not use all of them.
one pair 5.5-7" red belly dempsey
Distichodus sexfasciatus 3"
Geo. brasiliensis 'Sao Paulo red' 5-6"
Crenicichla 'Tapajos red pike' 5-6"
Uaru amphiacanthoides 5"
'Cichlasoma' pearsei 5"
Hemichromis 'Bangui red' 3"
Hemichromis elongatus 4-4.5"
Hypsophrys nematopus 5"
additional suggestions include:
Etroplus suratensis 'green chromide' 3"
Geophagus 'red head Tapajos' 5
Acaronia nassa 5-6" @ 50
Aequidens metae 4" @ 20
Andinoacara latifrons 4" @ 15
Rhinodoras 'prehistoric-type cat' that only grow to 8" (as opposed to similar looking irwini and niger that grow > 30") 4-4.5"
Some sort of Tinfoil barb
This is a list a reputable supplier gave me a while ago. I went with 12 discus and had 6 die when the water in my building was treated without me know it (heartbreaking). I am thinking this type of tank could be really cool. I have kept and bred Africans, did the planted tank, and the reef over the past 20 years. I am also thinking about making this a slow growing planted tank with Angels. But, the above fish keep calling me.
If anyone could direct me to a similar set up, that would be great. I have sen several out here!
Happy NEw Year!
Any ideas or thoughts?
