I have recently set up a 300 gallon tank and i have a shoal of 8 reds, bwtween 6" and 9" im feeding them most days if not every other day on mussels, shrimp and lance fish. I have started to notice some damaged fins from fighting.... i thought that keeping them well fed and having plenty of space would limit aggression? Any suggestions?

I'm no expert, but from memory, when I kept mine, breaking line of sight with decor seemed to do wonders.

Just a thought.

they are going to fight amongst eachother, get a pecking order and hell maybe even kill eachother. Its the nature of shoaling pygos.

Most peoples trying to shoal a group of red P's they are get them as juv stage and grow them all together, the pecking order will established in early age and will keep it until something change in your tank = result you will have a nice shoal. If you trying to shoal a larger one most likely will ended up badly in most cases and the weakest one will get kill in the process.

I got my reds as juvies and 2 years later, I still see nipped fins...LOL...that's what they do!!

P's have super regenerative abilities and I keep mine in a blackwater tank so whatever injuries they have heal pretty much the next day..LOL

i had 14 large reds(3 over a foot). limited fighting. Alot of breeding. what is your temp? the warmer it is the more aggressive they are. kept mine around 78. i have videos somewhere on here

piranhas got that wolverine (x-men) blood, soon those fins will grow back. if your worried about nip fins.. you got so much more to worry about then.
