Have you tested your water?
Yes
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?

I picked up a 2in redtail cat a couple weeks ago from an LFS. I've kept adults in my pond in the past and have really missed them so I thought id raise another up.

However after about 10 days it started acting strangely with Flashing and rapid breathing along with overall signs of stress. He is currently 2.5 inches long and is alone in a 20gal long grow out until he adds a couple more inches and can be housed with larger fish. There's no visible external issues and it seems to have stopped flashing and is behaving slightly more normal, but still lethargic. Does anyone have any tips for the next step? Parasites seem like the most likely issue in my opinion. I've closely monitored parameters daily and there has not been any fluctuation.

Temp is 77
PH 7.5
Ammonia about 0.10 ppm
Nitrite and Nitrate both reading at 0

I appreciate any advice in advance.

I think it's the NH3. Unless it's non-toxic NH4 or a 'false alarm' chloramine reading, the NH3 should always be 0.

I don't think the ammonia is the issue. It's pretty much non-existent and I was hesitant to confirm it was in fact 0ppm. The tank has been running with established media with juvenile Polypterus and other cats prior to upgrading them and adding this guy. I'll double check when I get home tonight. Any other ideas?

I'd agree with your theory of a parasite as other ideas go. Let us know how treatment works.
