Hi guys,

I've got a 55G with 4 melanochromis (jeuvies) in at the moment. Heard that these get real aggressive so am thinking of changing them.

I know someone who's selling redtop ice blue greshaki zebra (1-2 cm long), and they're going for £1 (around $1.70) each. Is this a good price?

What are these fish like? Are they mbuna? What else could I keep with them? How many could I keep in a 55g (once they've grown). I'm considering getting a few, then once they grow a bit, thinning out the stock and possibly putting some other africans with them (and hopefully keeping any breeding pairs in there).

Thanks

One of my friends has a red top, and it's about 4''. It is one of the most aggressive Africans i have seen. I myself have a melanochromis auratus, i think as long as they're the same size (introduced to each other young), they should be alright. I would definitely spread out the feeding so they dont hurt each other.

I forgot to mention, he keeps it with a larger blood parrot. I do not know if this is one of those odd mixes, but they've been together for 2yrs+.

Hmmm...interesting combo. The 2 auratus and 2 maingano I have are around 2-3 inches so I don't think I could introduce the 1 inch redtops with these. Can you recommend any other combination of africans which 1. could work with the melanochromis I have, and 2. Any african combinations which could work in a 55g. My LFS has said that they can get in pretty much any african for me, but I have no idea about which combos would look good, and also allow some breeding to occur.

Thanks

I have kept these for years. They really are only agressive towards each other. So if u hvae mutilple males they will fight for sure if not in a big enough tank. At the moment I have 4 males 5 females in a mixed 125. I have haps/vics and other mubua in these as well with no issues for years. As said in other posts if the fish grow up together they will get along better as adults. I also keep the albino version of these with other is as well and no issues.
