Currently setting up a 150g reef. I'm pretty formiliar with all filtration methods but can't decide which to go with. Any suggetions?? This is my biggest project. Prior to this I only have experience with a 30g with eclipse hood.

before my 90 crashed and died i used nothing but a refugium

I've got a 75g reef in progress. I'm running a 20g refugium and 30g sump. 140lbs of cured live rock tops of the filtration.

Just out of curiousity, what are you running for lighting in that tank?

get a large wet-dry and a high flowing water pump, reef tanks should have maximum oxygen saluration in order to thrive
:iagree: Along with optimum water quality, good lighting and adequate water flow.

large wet drys accumulate a lot of detritus. id go with a deep sand bed lots of live rock and as big a protien skimmer you can afford. id get a micron bag and run that occasionally as well as a little carbon for about 1 week a month. other than that id have a refugium with lots of Caulerpa and some reef mud. lots and lots of flow is neccesaray to keep detritus from settling on or near any of the corals. get a decent sized sump to put all of your equipment in and do lots of regular partial water changes and ,make sure you keep an eye out for all of your trace elemnt levels such as calcium, iodine, strontium, etc. keep lots of corals and not too many of the right types of fish and all the other little invert clean up crew members. dont over feed and you will be just fine

Why use a micron bag and a little carbon for only one week a month instead of continuously?

when you use it continuously you are depleteing a lot of the trace elemnts as well as the bad stuff. carbon does not discriminate. use a micron bag to clean out particulate matter, but be sure to clean it regularly or you will just make a nitrate farm. you dont want any detritus or decomposing organic material in your tank as they help produce algae and that is something you DONT want in a reef tank. keep your skimmer running in tip top shape and do your regular partial water changes. use carbon once a month for 1 week. clean your micron bag evry day or every other day depending on your tanks bio-load. feed sparingly and keep your tank stable and you should be in good shape

Best filter i ever tried is the Bio Rocker. It is abit on the expensive side, but what a amazing filter!!!
