I bought a 90 gallon "reef ready" aquarium from Oceanic. it came with everything including a light bar and i wanted to know if i should keep it, replace the bulbs, or just scrap it and get a fully new light.

it says on the sticker in the back "Oceanic 48" Florescent Triple Tube Aquarium Reflector, 120 volt 106 watts 60 hz"

More info on the subject would be appreciated as well.

thank you.

its your basic T8 flourescent lighting. Worthleass to most all corals. Is the canopy wooden?? if so just by a T5 HO retro kit and you will have plenty of lighting. IceCap makes the best kit IMO. Id say 8 bulbs will allow you to keep most SPS and clams. I have no issues with any of my clams in my 120 and thats lit with 8 T5 HO's, soon to be 10.

if the canopy is not wooden, then id suggest going to www.marinedepot.com and purchasing a Sunlight Supply TEK light, 8 bulb 48 inch for 470 bucks. The best bang for the buck, and you get individual reflectors, not the modular bent solid reflector.

dont buy teck light... the mounting brackets alone are 60 bucks... get this light: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/204945/product.web it has 8 bulbs, is $50 bucks cheaper, and it comes with the mounting brackets (i think you may want to ask customer service using the contact us link...)

You'll be hard pressed to fit 8 bulbs inside a canopy over a 90g, eespecially if you want a fan in there. I also use a Seaswirl & that hooks on the back edge of the tank. IMO, 6 bulbs is plenty of light, 8 might be overkill:

nice reef, which is the seaswirl?

TRIPLE POST!!!!

its personal prefference to what light you want. IMHO TEKs are a much better light then novas and well worth the extra cost.
