So I have a standard 55 that I want to turn into a reef. I have 60 pounds of sand and 64 pounds of live rock. I'm getting a wavepoint t5 4 bulb fixture. I have 2 koralias evos, a 1050 and 750. I'm getting an aquafuge refuguim that's 19x4.6x12. I have an seclone 150 protein skimmer(actually works). Also have a heater and a rena xp2. Is this a good start? Should I change anything or am I fine? All advice/help is appreciated.

Might want to just ditch the canister as filtration...you are going to need to clean it completely out once a month to keep the nitrates down if you want to use it.

When you say that your seaclone works...what do you mean? I have owned one in the past, it was my first skimmer. Yes, I got it to make bubbles but the quality could have been a lot higher. This is going to be one of the first things you are going to want to replace. I recommend AquaC skimmers for everyone, but especially beginners because they dont need to be tinkered with. Just plug and play.

Sounds pretty good. Lets see some pictures! :D

It just took me 3 attempts to get one that didn't leak from the bottom that's all. If I ditch the xp2 and get the skimmer you recomend would I be fine? I will get pics up when I can get to a comp with internet. I'm usually always on here on my phone.

I run my 75g reef on their smaller remora skimmer...and I also use lots of flow...its called a berlin system.

These skimmers are amazing.

I will pick one up then thanks fleshy

I 2nd that.

From what it sounds like Flesh we have the same system, yours has just been up and running a while longer. You will see this weekend what I mean.

+1

Nonstops tanks are sparkling clean. (Maybe this has something to do with a huge AquaC skimmer, and a 125g sump. Ridiculously awesome.)

Reef is the same, except for the fact that it needs some of my coals. :D
