I know it does indeed have more surface area than any other filter media out there but I'm not sure how well it would do in a canister as substrat pro is small balls and channeling isn't a problem but with larger balls... But I have read reviews claiming it is excellent. I have yet to try it though and I am basing this off the bit of research I done on it a while back.

No it doesn't. A 9x9x4 block is 1.4 gallons and has 19,500 sq feet of surface area (according to the website). Thats about 14,000 sq feet per gallon. Ehfisubstrat is 18,300 sq feet per gallon (according to the box).

Seachem matrix claims to have more surface area than substrat pro, which presumably has more than regular ehfisubstrat. 4 liters is $30. I haven't used it, but I also have empty space in my fluval 404s, and that's the best deal I've seen for ceramic or sintered glass biomedia.

The cell pore stuff (reefresh2o is a really stupid name, they shouldn't have changed it) is massively overpriced for the 5/8 inch balls. 1 quart for $22? That'l like $90 per gallon. The 1-1/4 inch balls are a fraction of the price for some reason.

Well said I could not agree more. I am gonna go with the seachem matrix they have never done me wrong and that is one hell of a deal :headbang2

Honestly though I read like 10 posts claiming this reefresh20 to be touched by god. Wonder why
