I was thinking about setting up a refugium using a marina breeder box. I have a shallow bowl with a couple of leaves breaking down. Noticed with a magnifying glass little detritus worms and critters swimming around in the glass bowl. The bowl is near a window so sometimes receives light. Will this work? There is a little light from the aquarium but dim.

good idea!

i too was considering something similar, surprisingly the pothos i bought x3 in hanging pots have been growing in my basement mud room with no windows and only a few LED cans on a motion switch....

i’ve been looking at lighting for them but don’t want to spend $100’s -

i’d say go for it, worse case they don’t grow and your out $50... and have to use the box for fry and put plants elsewhere

good luck!

Most of the animals used in refugiums don't need much light, worms, snails, shrimp and other macro fauna seem to be most activate at night anyway, so should work fine as is.
Although a little, cheap, desk lamp is all that's needed for some plants and algae that add diversity and interest. My refugium communities seem to be quite interesting, and entertaining in their own right.
