I am purchasing a fully setup 75 gal saltwater aquarium with sump and refugium, and I haven't had much experience with these. Any one have more knowledge on a refugium, and possible pros and cons?

Refugiums are an excellent addition to pretty much any aquarium; they utilize live rock, macroalgae, plants, and/or "mud" to naturally filter your aquarium. They're also a great place to propagate 'pods which will help eat uneaten food not to mention that some animals will feed on them, too; you can also put fish in there in order to grow them out before adding them to the main aquarium. I honestly can't think of any cons.

Agreed with everything. The only Con I could see is that it requires a light down in the sump, which isn't a big deal. Its mainly there to eat up all the nitrates

fuges are an awesome way to maintain more stable water quality through biological filtration that really works. in the pic sump on right fuge on left. in my tank the overflows spill into the sump over mechanical filter medias over LR through past the skimmer through the union through the fuge and pumped back up through the returns via mag 12. my arrangement works really well so far though I'm going to add more cheto and put some LR in with the cheto so there is 2 sections of LR one in sump and one in fuge... i liked how it looks too so i took the door off that side of my stand lol, also getting a mantis shrimp this week for it. his scraps will help feed everything.

go with slower flow, use miracle mud it worked well for me so far, I'm also pretty new to fuges so any advice for me aswell is appreciated.

op if you wana know more about my setup or how it works pm me
