O.k the question i have is the clarity diff in the 2.

in the 3/4 inch thick glass i need and the size there is a $330.00 price jump for the Starfire glass. Is this really worth the extra money.
how about all the starfire owners out there chime in. and the ones that would not buy can 2.LOL
its just $330.00 could go a long way twards something else if there is not alot of diff.
but if there is a great deal of diff it might be worth the money spent.
thanks in advance.

For thinner glass it's not that important, but at 3/4" it will definitely be a noticeable difference.

Have you seen this pic?

It's hard to say whether it's worth it - only you know your budget so it's really for you to decide. Personally, the greenish tint of regular glass doesn't really both me much (I went with regular glass instead of starfire for my 1/2" glass and have no regrets), but have never heard of anyone regretting the decision to go with starfire. But remember that you're hopefully going to have the tank for a long time and if this is something that's going to bother you, I think it's best to do it right for the first time so you don't have any regrets.

In the grand scheme of setting up a monster tank (which I'm assuming this is, based on the need for 3/4" glass), $330 really isn't much money.

I would just do the front panel in starfire and the rest with normal glass.

yes i looked at that pic.
that is actually where i got the quote for the glass.
i called them today and he is sending me a sample piece of glass from both types. i heard they were not good to deal with but he was very nice and helpfull on the phone..lol

tank will be 13'x4'x2.5'
i did not think 1/2 would be enough.. it might be IDN?

I would go starfire if I could afford it. Would definitely make a difference. Starfire glass will be similar to an acrylic tank, as acrylic is completely clear, unlike normal glass which has a green tint to it. If you've ever owned an acrylic tank, you know how much nicer and clearer the fish look.

Maybe check out a sample from your supplier first. The 3/4" - 19mm glass I used was no where near as tinted as in the pic deeb posted. You can not see any green tint to the glass in my tank with lights on and filled with water.

Wouldn't acrylic be cheaper than starfire glass? Because with glass you also have to keep refraction in mind. Certain things from certain angles will look distorted, and since this is a 4' width tank, it might be more noticeable than with narrower tanks.

well my samples of 3/4 glass arrived from Glasscages.
he sent me a large piece of regular glass and one of starfire glass.
there is a big difference in the 2.
you would never know it if you did not have the 2 pieces side by side.
its kind cool. looks just like acrylic. it only takes the smallest things to amuse me sometimes...lol
