Reglue shoe sole?

I have a really nice pair of police style work boots but the hot wet conditions have taken their toll on the rubber pad on my boots. The tread has separated from the rest of the boot. Is there a certain type of glue that should be used in this situation?

I've seen contact cement used in that situation before that worked well, otherwise gorilla glue should hold as well but you have to be careful to keep everything clean when it foams up.
