Regrowing Fins

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
best thing I've found for wounds & torn fins is
(1) plenty of clean water and
(2) SeaChem Stressguard OR
(3) salt.

google Stressguard's qualities for yourself. it's better than salt, protects tissues while being NON-irritating, but I reserve it for limited circumstances & tank volume. salt is much cheaper. don't combine the two, IMO it would be wasting the cost of Stressguard because salt is mildly irritating.
Once wounded tissue is healing up (not raw), I doubt that Stressguard is much better than salt, if at all.

I'd say clean water is all u need... as long as there's no kind of infection, I've never needed to add anything. Keep the ammonia levels at 0 and nitrates below 20, or 10 if possible, and any torn fins should heal pretty quick. I've used aquarium salt and the only thing it seems to do to my fish is cause it to scratch himself on the gravel... otherwise I can't tell a difference when adding it to clean water.
