I picked this fish up only because of its size.... It look so FAT!!! The ratio of head to torso is also very odd. It was pretty stressed when I took the shots cus I took the cover off and placed another tank lighting system to help with my shots. Pictures are a little bleached out, maybe too much light.

Lemme know if you can make any connect to this guy ... hes 5 inches long at least.AK0_8252.jpgAK0_8294.jpgAK0_8254.jpg

Agree as well. Some males tend to take more of a "fat-football" shape (like this one), while others develop more of the "mini-Midas" shape. As his confidence/dominance improve, his bars will start to darken up a bit.

Yah I knew it wouldnt be the best photo taking his house away from him and removing the cap from his tank.... He totally looks like a football too. I should name him after a football town ... like the Green Bay Convict , lol.

O think it's a hybrid but hard to say what it's mixed with, your right the head to torso ratio is odd. Only real convict fans would see that trait.

Unless you bought it with a location attached, it's safe to assume it's a convict mutt, ie a mix of two or three convict species. Much like the midas/red devil issue, the convicts were thought to be a single species and mixed for decades before they were separated out into distinct species.

90% of the convicts in the hobby are hybrids, no one knew years ago how many species existed and freely crossed them, unless it has a collection location I would say is not pure.
