Looking into ordering some new sponge filters and realized there are 2 different kinds. I wasn't sure about the pro series but I know that one of my hydro 5's I got from bigals was a pro series. My others are just the regular hydros. I haven't noticed a difference but I didn't know there were different kinds until know.

"The Hydro-Sponge Pro is the newest product line among our family. The Hydro-Sponge Pro like the Hydro-Sponge is made in all the same sizes but unlike the Hydro-Sponge line it uses reticulated foam. This gives the sponge itself almost double the efficiency as compared to the Hydro-Sponge." taken from http://www.atisponge.com/Products/HydroSpongePro/tabid/78/Default.aspx

I'd be getting hydro 5's and the price difference is $1.85 between the two which isn't a big deal but I have to order 12 to get a discount so it kind of is.

I will either be ordering from jehmco or kensfish.

anybody know where I can get these for cheaper or if theres a just as effective DIY? I've seen some DIY's on the net before but I could never find the foam for it. I looked at jo-anns and michaels and neither of them had it.

and has anybody used the "mini pancake sponges" on jehmco's site? I really want to try them fry tanks but they don't seen very cost effective in comparison to just buying a hydro1.

the first time I ever used one I was so impressed, now I don't keep a single tank without one.
