Today i decided to properly clean my canister filters as i have not done it (had them 6 months) i decided to fill a bucket of water with white vinegar and baking soda. Placed the inlet/outlet inside the bucket. I rested a net over the bucket with some filter floss stuffed inside and plugged it in. I came back to it after 1 hour only to find the filter floss covered in small debris ! I was amazed how much crud was lodged in the hose and filter ! I wish i had taken a pic to show you guys. My filters run more silent now and the flow rate has improved.....I will be doing this every 4 months or so from now on.

It will kill the bacteria thats in the tube and in the canister itself, but the good stuff will be in the media that obviously is taken out and stored in a bucket with aquarium water whilst the cleaning is taking place.
