So the possibility of having to relocate to find work is becoming more real as each day goes by. my bank was sold recently and my days are numbered here.

anyways, have any of you guys ever moved to another city with a planted tank? is it even possible? i have so many small fish and shrimp in there and i see no way of catching them without tearing up the tank.

i thought about draining the water down to an inch or two and just moving the whole setup as it. its acrylic, so im sure a few two strong guys could move a 55g with substrate and a bit of water. but then again, the fish/shrimp are a problem.

im thinking i might have to tear it down, sell the plants, and then start all over. or, i might just say to hell with planted tanks and give up for a while!!!

any ideas? this might be the last time you guys get a pic of the tank :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Damn, wish I could help. I'm kinda wondering the same thing as I'm planning on getting a 55g to do a co2 planted tank in the future... Your tank is beautiful. Would be a shame to not see you rebuild it wherever you move.

id leave everything in it and just keep a few inches of water in the tank the plants won't die or the fish or shrimp.the plants will actually give fish oxygen.my friend moved his tank to a different city it was a couple hours away and everything went good. good luck

i say go with the drain idea but also if not possible just sell the setup whole youl get more money.

I agree, I would just leave a little water in there and move it as is.

Where you thinking about moving.

thanks for the input fellas. might be looking at moving 2-3hrs away from home, not sure yet.

anybody else have experience with this?

I have moved planted tanks several times, including invert tanks. I just pull the plants, bag 'em up; catch as many critters as I can and package them as I would to ship. Then leave the substrate damp and move the tank, setting it up as soon as I get to the new place. Replant, and voila. You can start catchign them the week before you move and put them in a bare bottom tote with a sponge filter, it helps.

I just move my two smaller planted tanks, but it was only about 15 mins away. I am also upgrading my 30 to a 125, so I pulled all the plants and fish and put them in a Rubbermaid tote. My hex tank, all I took out was the fish and all but about an inch of water. I left the shrimp in there. Everything did fine with the move.

Beautiful tank!

When I moved from Charlotte to Clayton, North Carolina, I took all the plants and fish, and put them in a 5 gallon bucket. They were in there nearly 5 hours, despite it being only a 3 hour drive. The only thing I lost was one Otocinclus.
