anyone got any bright ideas how to trap a 6" pinktail trigger out of my SPS reef? Way too much coral to be swinging a net around. He just broke off a pineapple sized Digitata colony by swimming erratically and is killing snails (I could forgive this if not for other offenses). Its got to go and i'm getting pissed off now that my prized colony is broke off. No telling if ill get it to reattach before its knocked over again.

place a large net on the bottom with a piece of shrimp on it and that when he comes to eat it spring the net up. thats all i got.

I have used fish traps made from acrylic. You have to put it in and leave it till the fish get use to seeing it. Then start feeding the fish from the trap. You put the food in the trap only, if they want to eat they have to go into the trap. Then its just waiting for the offender to make a mistake. Its not easy and it takes a while but its the only way I could catch the fish without destroying the whole tank. I have heard that you can also wait till night then spotlight the fish and net them, but triggers usually lock themselves into the rock.

I agree with this being your best bet.

Another option, far more invasive, barbless hook and go fishing. (I haven't tried this but have heard of it working.)

Where does he go to hide? Usually when they lock into one spot you can pick up that rock and get them out. That is if that rock is accessible.

good suggestions. Could consider the fishing trick but would be afraid of hurting my hippo tang as it feeds super aggressively. The trigger locks itself into an inaccessible rock so that wont work. Will look into the trap idea but the fishing is intriguing haha.
