I have an old school 150 gallon that has been up and running since 2009 without issue but now I'm wanting a bit different look. It has a large glass center brace, about 12" wide or more and 1.5" glass bracing on either side. Can I safely remove the wood trim around the top? My instincts tell me the trim is only cosmetic with the glass bracing it has. Any thoughts?

is there anything going across the middle? how thick is the glass?

if its like my old school 150, I have no center braces and 1/2" heavy as all hell glass lol.

I'd say it would probably be ok...but the bracing maybe giving the silicone in the seams a bit of help when it comes to holding water in the tank so it may be a gamble.

EDIT I just reread your OP...and I cant read apparently, if you have bracing the whole way around then yes the wood is just accent pieces and it shouldn't effect the stability of your tank at all.
