I currently have an empty overflow and I am trying to remove the bulkhead. No matter how hard me and another person try holding, we can't get the piece under the tank to separate from the piece in the overflow. We've tried using wrenches and our hands and it all keeps spinning as one piece, not allowing the chance to loosen it.

I am thinking maybe the threading got misaligned or something. I really don't want to have to cut the bulkhead off so I was wondering if anyone had any tips first.

PS -- I don't think the problem is a lack of strength on our part ;p

Can you tell which half of the fitting has the nut? You need to hold the flats on the fitting and turn the nut with a wrench or pliers.

It might be possible the previous owner glued the fitting in place, unless of course you installed this fitting.

If you are able to replace the bulkhead then cut the nut if it is on the bottom and if its inside the overflow have one person push down and hold the bulkhead and cut it off. You could also tray using a hair dryer or a heat gun to warm the nut enough to get it past any bad threads.

The nut is on the bottom. I am trying to find out if the person used any glue when installing the bulkhead.

I am hoping to avoid cutting it off. If it is not stripped I was hoping to reinstall ASAP.

Is the bulkhead end threaded? If so, install a threaded adapter with pipe to hold it from spinning. Other way is to hold the bulkhead from spinning from the inside. Usually the inside of the bulkhead have two slotted keyway but you need the tool.

Thanks guys. Got it off this morning, only took two pairs of channel pliers and a ton of effort... but all is well now.

Wasn't stripped or anything,
