Hi,

Not sure where exactly to place this thread but it will be DIY, so...

I bought a 2nd hand tank that has this not very attractive wood looking thing attached to the back and one side of the tank. After a month of my new tank being set up its starting to bother me.

My question is how easy would it be to take this off and how would be best with out actually damaging the glass to remove the glue.

I think they used some kind of epoxy type of glue to attach it.

If anyone has ideas or tips that would be fantastic.

Maybe a few pictures would help us understand exactly what you are trying to remove. Test the adhesive with a putty knife or butter knife to see how easy/hard it will be to remove from the glass.

you can always use acetone or turpentine to try and get it off, just make sure it doesn't touch your silicon and make sure you clean it off.

Thanks very much, will try to get some photos up this weekend....

If I remove it all and use what you've suggested, in terms of cleaning and drying and stuff.

What would be the safest thing to clean it with after using such harsh solutions? (naturally don't want any residue to get mixed into my water :) )

The solvent will depend on the adhesive. If you are lucky, it will just scrape off.
