I am getting an otorongo stingray at the weekend and currently have 2" of gravel in my tank just wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could remove the gravel and replace with sand without getting a load of sand in my impellors or upsetting the water too much?

Any advice would be gratefully received

Not too much you can do besides scoop it out and replace it. And the water will look nasty for a day or two. Just keep a foam filter going or something in the meantime and shut the power filters off.

try it, i dont see how gravel will go up a pipe. i never tried it tho. i jus went in there with my fish net, and netted out all my gravel. took me about 10 mins.

It will work real good. I did it on my tank when I went to bare bottom. The pipe and hose you use just needs to be large enough that the gravel does not get stuck.

yea hows how i changed mine, used a hose to suck em out.

the sand will take a while to clear like it always does, but sand is worht it imo.

Just start a siphon and if it is strong enough to pick the gravel up, your pipe is big enough. I had to use a 3" pipe but my tank is 36" deep.
