I have a cannister filter with 2 trays of bio balls and one tray of ceramic rings.
I was told to remove the bio balls and to add rings. Will this cause my tank to cycle. Really don't want to go thru that again. Thanks

Are you having problems with ammonia being detectable in your system? If not then don't bother changing the media as the bioballs will be working fine. Bioballs work best in a trickle-type situation with water cascading over them, but submerged they will still provide surface area for nitrifying bacteria to grow on. If you're going to go to the trouble of replacing your media, go with something that provides considerably higher surface area, like sintered glass or matrix.

Yea having spikes in ammonia. I just bought a 2nd canister filter too
