I purchased a used 180 Reef Ready tank. The guy I bought it from tried to clean the mineral deposits that accumulated on the black acrylic overflow boxes. He used a rought grit sand paper and made the black boxes look like sh*t. :irked:

What could I use to restore the nice gloss black finish?

sand paper wow. only way to get those scratches out is to use more sand paper. keep sanding and work your way up to like 1500 grit sand paper. after that, use the Novus 1 2 3 products to get it back to normal. an electric polisher will really help with the buffing. it will take a lot of work!

Use wet/dry sandpaper on it and sand it wet. Let it dry and then use #0000 steel wool to smooth it out. This is what I do to remove faux finish woodgrain on tank trim. Be sure to wipe away the dust often as you go with a clean paper towel for both phases. The end result will be a satin finish that looks exactly like graphite.
