I want to remove the side panel of a tank and I have never done it before. I understand you use a razor blade to remove the silicone (every single bit by my understanding).

But what do you do about the plastic trim that goes all the way around? Does that have to be removed (if so how?) or does it not stick to the glass so you can just "lift" the panel out once the silicone has been removed?

Thanks in advanced. Any useful articles would be appreciated as well.

I'm no expert but i have resiliconed a tank. most of my tanks have the plastic trim siliconed on. i cut under it the best i can then try to pry it off.

You will need to remove at least one frame to get it out. If you can't get the glass loose you'll have to remove the other.
A box cutter with the snap off blades or a thin fillet knife will slip behind the frame to cut the silicone.

My 10 gallon was glued on the outside of the trim. It was hell to get off. I wish you luck.

You should be able to order replacement trim pieces through you local LFS as long as they carry the your specific brand of tank.
