I plan on making a 15 gallon riparium, and was wondering about removing the tank trim. I've seen a lot of users on this site use rimless aquariums and mod supports in larger tanks. It's going to be filled 2/3 of the way, so 10 gallons. I'd hate to come home and find my betta and dwarf frogs dried up on the floor. Is removing the rim on a 15 safe?

Do NOT remove the bottom trim. The tank sits on that trim about 1/3 of an inch above the table. The tank cannot sit flat on its glass bottom.

Why would you think that? I have seen plenty of people have larger rimless tanks that support the weight just fine. I am thinking of going rimless on my 4gallon. I think they look great and for 15 gallons there should not be any issue.

The thread you have linked to is removal of the top trim. I did not mention that, only the bottom trim.

After my tank broke I spoke to a glasier about it. I was in his place of business for an unrelated issue and asked.... NEVER set a tank flat on its glass pane. They are designed to be edge supported.

I was only planning on removing the top so it doesn't break up the view of the plants. Thank you for the warning, though.

Actually if you look at the pics in the thread I posted you will notice that the bottom frame has also been removed.

As far as glass tanks are designed to hold the weight on the edges would it not make more sense for the weight to spread out over a larger surface and just on the edges? And if you look at some of the cheaply made tanks you will notice the edges are not all straight. Now that could cause an issue.

Even in your own thread other people have disagreed with you theory. And so do I.
