i added some drift wood it is the malaysian drift wood you can get at lfs and i soaked it in hot hot water for two days doing water changes (to large to boil) and i put it in my tank with active carbon but it has been in there about a month and it still leaks a light brown color i was wondering how long it takes to stop leaking this color? and also how often should i change my active carbon to remove this color? thanks for the help.

Could be anywhere from months to years, depends on the size and intensity of the tannins in the wood.

Your activated carbon is probably exhausted and if so, it will be leaching the tannins back into the water. I've got some Malaysian driftwood in my tank and I use Seachem Purigen, works absolute wonders with Tannins, lasts much longer than activated Carbon, won't remove fertilizers, and is able to be regenerated once it has been exhausted.

I highly recommend you pick some of this up, you can get the 100gm bags that fit perfectly in canisters or decent sized internals and it comes pre-bagged and is quite cheap. 100gm treats 100Gal (400L).

Ditto. Actually a good hot soak will open the pores up on the driftwood and get the tannins flowing faster. So it looks like more is in your tank, but you're getting rid of it faster. I personally like the look, so I just leave it. I will do a water change if it gets a little too brown.

Depends how fine the mesh is on the AC110 bags, I'm not familiar with these sort of filters because they're not very common over here in Australia. Seachem sell a product called "The Bag" which might be what you're looking for.
