i am in need of some expert advice.i got some discus with worms and now i am certain the rays have got them,I was able to identify them hanging out of the anus of 3 discus.what is the best way to treat this.the rays poop is clear and white also same with discus.

here is a link of what i herd maybe the best for killing these worms.i tried prazi for 14 days at regular

dosage.http://www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/levamisole-hydrochloride-1

let me know if this is a ray safe med if not i am going to double dose the prazpro again and try salt treatment at the same time

best thing to do is ID the worm first. can u get one to get a pic?

its red and brown they are hanging out of the anus of 3 of 6 of my discus.i am going to treat it as all the fish in that tank are effected

what a good link thanks alot man.i did also find a discus med from uk called kusuri wormer plus.

but i would much rather use garlic extract.do you know anything about garlic extract dosing rays and who makes a product like this.or do i just get it at the store

I don't know about ray dosing, but I have used garlic extract to remove parasites and all I did was take some organic garlic cloves and smashed them with a hammer and placed them in those net bags(so the smashed cloves don't go everywhere) and then into the tank in a area that receives current. I used as many cloves as it took to get the water a garlic smell which was 3 cloves for my 100 gallon.

Hope it all works out.

Since you have rays I would just add one clove at a time to the tank making sure the rays aren't irritated by the garlic.

I left the cloves in tell they showed signs of rot then re-dosed if I still say signs of parasites.

i like the garlic idea as it should be ray safe. i used garlic stuff to get one of my old retics to eat when i first got it. garlic is suppose to make fish hungry and entices most of them. thats why on some fish bait they will put it in garlic.

Garlic is next to useless.
While it does have antihelminitic properties it will only mildly help suppress, It is NOT a cure. It is also 100% useless in the water, it needs to be in the food.
It would also be great if people would stop recommending meds until they know what the exact problem is. Prazi is NOT a cure-all. If it didn't work the first time it won;t work the second ( or third)

I D B T
Identify Disease Before Treatment!!!!!!!!!
You cannot use flubenol/flubendazole with rays .
Levmisol is risky
Take the discus out, treat them in a separate hospital tank with flubendazol

have you ever tried levmisol on rays before.what about flubendazole aka panacur.its come reccomended from a few experts.I also beleive prazi is not a cure-all product i think i just stressed the rays even more using it.

best advice i got so far was to remove all meds get the rays stress free and than see what happens.maybe the rays dont have the worms or maybe they will fight them off naturally which they should be able to do unless they are stressed.
