Hey every one.

I recently aquired a rena filstar xp2 from a purchas along with some other aquipment. And i know all you guy's own them. Was curious if some one would be so kind to tell me what the flow rate or gph for this particular canister is. And allso for all of you that use them what do you use for material in them in the tray's and what order from top to bottom exc do you use it. And allso is there a filter pad for them that you can buy that is made for them polishing pads exct. Plus i have read on here about other canister clogging cuzz of using such things.

Doe's and don'ts for this particular canister. What works good and what doesn't exc. Thanks for you'r time as usually i really do appreciate it.

Sincerely

I believe they are around 300gph. I would use 2 20ppi sponges followed by 2 30ppi sponges in the bottom basket. Fill the top basket with biomax or ehfisubtrat. Stray away from the micro filtration pads they clog very quickly.

The micro pads are great for water polishing, but they do need to be changed often.

XP2 - For 75G tanks, upto 300GPH.

I wouldn't run this on anything bigger than a 55 if you like to have your water really clean. I run an XP3 on my 75G right now and it is rate for a 175G tank.

Thanks bderick 67 and paraoh for you'r comment's I'm actually planing on using this on a 20 gallon cube to try to do some breeding of cons in so i guess it will serfice lol. Like i previously stated i have never owned this brand of canister and it's pretty small i'm surprised it has a flow rate that high amazing. Also curious if that is packed pull of media or just the sponges i know that that makes a difference.

I'm allso curious to why on all of these what should i fill my canister's with threads all you guy's put the sponges on the bottom for not the top is this so no debre's get's it to the return pump.

What is a good polishing pad for these instead of the previously stated i hate using carbon for some reason it's a waste of a media basket to me but would like something that does polish the water up.

Again thanks for you'r responces and to every one that isn't sick of these what to fill my canister with quistion please do responde i know there is a lot of them allready on here.

SIncerely

Also i'm thinking about setting up a 75 so it is safe to say that this xp2 a ten gallon wet/dry and some kind of hob probaully a penguin bio wheel cuzz i love them would be plenty seficent. The ony thing that is going to be in it is a blue diamond rhom till he's big enough to own my 125 i decided to keep cuzz no one wanted to buy it. It's kinda funny that more people allready have replied to this then that tank for 3 bills full set up in two weeks time it was on here lol

Thanks again.

Damn i got alot of quistion lol i'm allso curious to what one of these is worth brand new.

1. The sponges go on the bottom because they work with the flow of water. Water comes in the inlet, goes down the side of the baskets and then up through the baskets. The filter foams are there to prevent the debris from getting all over the biological media.

2. Once you have the filter foam in the bottom try, put some biological media in there. Here is what we are talking about although you can find it cheaper on Ebay.

3. The rating that they give for the pump on the XP2 is strictly for the pump without any media. I would definitely expect it to go down once filled with media.

4. The micro pads for the XP2 work really well. I use them in my XPs. The problem is that they get dirty quick, causing you to have to do filter maintainence more often. The only time you should put carbon in you filters is when you have been using chemicals and you need to remove them. Other than that it is not necessary.

5. You should be fine to use all three on a 75. Just make sure to get a decent size HOB and you will be golden.

6. Price for these could be anywhere from $90 to $140

thanks paroah for your' time.
