Hey guys,

I have 2 Rena XP3's and I plugged them in I thought they were suppose to automatically fill then start working... how do I get them to do this?

you need to fill the canister part with water, fill the hoses with water, plug in and it will go.

when servicing, just fill the canister part with water when done, leave the hoses full of water all the time and you never need to reprime.

you will just plug in and it will run every time. when you use the aquastop it keeps the hoses full of water all the time, so when done cleaning, just fill the canister container with water, push down the aquastop to connect the hoses (that are still full of water) and it will go in seconds.

its great.

hope this helps.

Ok I can fill the canisters, but how will I get the hoses full?? Wont water drip out of the holes..

Thanks for quick reply!

At the top of the intake and output hose there should be a cap you can unscrew, I just used a cup to pour water into the tops of the hoses. At least thats how my xp3 works.

Ok it worked! Thanks for the quick reply guys...

Next subject;

The water is absolutely filled w/dust and dog hair from storage.... are the 2 Rena's able to filter all that?? I already see hair clogging at the intake filter thing, I'll have to turn it off and wipe out in sink then reapply. You think after how many hours should I open up the filters and take a look at how hair-filled the 30/20 ppi filter media are?

Well it's working, I keep wiping the hair off the intake filters and they build up less and less quickly each time.... tank still full of debris though. Also got the Emperor 280 going, too small for 120gal but it's just an added benefit..

I filled tank with one of those garden hose's that says don't drink from it because it was made of recycled plastic or whatever... would that matter to fish if it's been treated/filtered?

I just did that for now, I plan on buying syphon kit and filling with tap from sink and treating.

You can use tap water on a new tank and filter no problem. Just make sure you use dechlorinater or you'll kill anything that goes into that tank. I used a garden hose to fill my tank. I use a Rena Filstar xp4 btw... theres a funnel the filter comes with.... and you use that to fill the intake tube. Just tank the cap off the top of the intake tube, fill it with use of the funnel, then put the cap back on. Easy. I love how quiet this filter is.

Ok guys so the tank has been running about 24 hours now, I haven't started cycling yet didn't add amonia or anything I added some Tetra tap treatment that smelled like fish water and that's it.

The tank water now seems to have gotten cloudy, not sure but I want to say a light green tint. Is this algae?? How does algae grow and what can I do to prevent it? Will algae be a problem once the water has been cycled and established?

24 hours is very early to start seeing algae yet. It's perfectly normal for the water to go cloudy in the beginning. You can use clarifier, or you can start cycling the tank and it will clear on its own. However, considering that you did not rinse the tank and filters prior to use (as evidenced by your comment that there was dust, dog hair, and other debris floating in the water) it may take a little longer to clear. Always always always rinse all fish equipment prior to use.
