hey all,

I am looking to buy a FX5 to compliment my XP4 on my 125 gal. I have a rena heater on my XP4 intake now (the all in one rena smart heater which is awesome BTW) and wanted to know if it woudl work with the FX5 as well? Is the tubing the same? Will I have intake problems switching to a different intake?

If needed I will do an inline heater for the FX5 but I would prefer to match the looks on both sides of the tank and have another Rena heater.

Anyone done this or have any insight?

Andy

The plumbing for the FX5 will be much larger that the plumbing for the XP4. The FX5 has 1 inch line where the XP4 has 5/8 inch line. You would have to split the return of the FX5 to make it work.

Thats what I feared. I woudl have to run a second heater in the tank or get a Hydor inline heater.

Hmm. I guess I could just get another XP4 and heater as well. I was plannign on using the FX5 for biologic only and the flow rate woudl help with my oscars...

Thoughts on xp4 or FX5 to use in conjunction with my existing XP4.

Comparing the two, go FX5. It wouldn't be that hard to split the output. The FX5 is better bang for the buck.

Well it woudl be the input that would be split. The Rena heater is for the intake.

You are thinking same page as I am though. FX is larger, bigger trays, and better flow rate. And for 200 or so on Ebay it is only 50 or so more then the XP4...
