I have owned my rena for about 6 months or so, my question is to all you rena users how often do you change you filter media versus just giveing a good rinse an do you rotate rinsing sponge then to ceramic rings or whatever you use for biological filtration.

Since my rena came with a rediculous amount of biological filtration I went out an bought some ceramic rings to fill the middle crate (FULL). The bottom crate I have 2 course sponges an a fine sponge. An the top crate I have a carbon packet in the top an usually a polishing pad(not recently tho).

I know what the box recomends but is that a strict guidline (that you follow) or have you developed your own routine is my real question along with what you have in your crates in what order?

I just wash mine out and reuse them, I bought the unit used and I have had it about a year now and I have never replaced them. Also, you said that it came with a lot of bio filtration and then you went out and bought ceramic rings, well thats what they are as well, bio filtration.

sry I mean that in a bad way not ridiclously good, like 6-8 biostars, if your guna buy a almost 200 dollar filter the least they could do is pitch in some bio media for crying out loud.

I run my Rena filters like this
2 Course--2 Fine -- Ceramic Media -- Ceramic Media -- Polishing pad.

I generally would clean them about every other month. Of course, I was runnning two of them on my 70G corner tank.

I had an extra set of course and fine sponges that I just swapped out. I also added a new polishing pad.

I have been washing and rinsing the foam for more than a year now. The polishing pads tend to break down and need replacement. I run my xP2 like this: 3 Course, 2 Fine, SuperMicrofiltration.
