Just curious if the Rena Thermic Smart Heater 300 is a heater that i can put in a ray tank without the ray getting heat burn?

I use these heaters but don't have a ray. My guess it yes because the heating element is on the inside of the heater and even when on for a quite awhile it doesn't get hot on the outside. I could hold it and it doesn't feel like it could burn anything. But once again I don't have rays

we have two with rays and they both work great. no burns, no problems, and no glass to break. they are both used on either side of the tank for intakes for the canisters. would recommend i use 2 300's but im sure the other sizes are the same.

i have the rena 300w and i touch it with bare hands and its not hot. Prolly the safest heater you can buy. If you have a sump throw it in there, or if you use a rena canister you can connect it on the tubing so its never inside your tank.

any other inputs?

yep I have two of them w/ my 3 rays and discus. Even when they are on and off all day long the discus have laid eggs on them that have hatched to wigglers. Just goes to show the outer surface doesn't get very warm. I also love that the dial lights up when it is on or flashes when something is wrong.

yes the lights are awesome and are very easy to see. plus it dosent have to go on just a rena filter i have one on a rena canister and also a different brand canister. works great for both. plus very easy to clean the inside of since they are not glass they dont break like that. i would def. say get them for putting in sump or main tank.
