Well I have a 90G with a Rena XP3 running I added a small Penguin Bio-wheel 200 for arrigation.

I have 7 BP ranging from 2 inch's to 5 inches.. they will all grow to be around 7 to 8 inches. 4 of the BP I bought at the size of a quarter.. Was going to say loonie but this is not a canadian site lol... I also have a gibbie and a common in there.

I was told this is fine for my tank... But I'm starting to wonder if that filter can handle the load of these very messy fish. I do water changes twice a week. about 20%
Is this filter going to handle these BP as they grow?

I am sorry whats a BP ?

sorry it's a Bood Parrot.. non dyed.
Oh ok. If you think the mechanical filtration is good enough and you do not have traces of ammonia or nitrite I would stick with it. However they will grow and eat more and more. I would think eventually adding an eheim 2217 or an Aquaclear 110 would be a good investment if not for the bio but the mechanical filtration its a pretty big tank and as of now I think your turnover is at about 3.5X an hour including your Hang on the back filter. Not bad but for your stock when they are all grown it may need slightly more. :)

I have a similar situation but to a larger scale, so far I have not had any real problems I have 4 parrots, 5" each, 3 gold severums, 5" each, a chocolate plecostomus, 12" in a 150 g tank. I use 2, xp3's an 2, 300 w heaters. I do 50% water changes weekly. These fish create a lot of waste to it's really important to keep up with the water changes. I thouroughly clean out the xp3's once a month. I also add 150ml of amquel plus and 1/2 cup of salt after each water change.

You probably have too many fish for the waste load you will realize as they grow.

thank you all very much :) now i know I will be getting another filter. Starting to price them out now so i will be ready to get one in the future. All levels are great now.. just want to be prepared

I kinda went with the whole inch (adult size) per gallon with this tank... then started thinking... these guys produce a lot of waste now.. and I know they are still going to get bigger.... started thinking if that filter was ment for small dainty fish or large waste produces. lol. Glad to know now I will need another filter then when my tank levels get out of control and wondering why. lol.

I run an xp3 and 2x AC110's on my 90. xp3 has the 3 sponges and the rest filled with bio. and the AC's have double the bio it comes with. works great for me. Oh and a sponge filter. :D

Prevention and over building is key :) Its the heart of your aquarium gotta be more than adequate in my opinion. Good to see the fish have your best interest.
